Martin Whalen is a former US Army Field Artillery officer who served in the 2nd Armored Division and the 4th Infantry Division during his time on active duty. Following his graduation from the United States Military Academy, Martin was stationed at FT Sill, Oklahoma and FT Hood, Texas. Martin reflects on his time in the active duty military as his most important years that honed his leadership style and passion for developing others. While his undergraduate degree shaped his leadership beliefs, it was his time in the army where he truly began to apply such skills. Being a young lieutenant in the US Army and being responsible for a platoon of men and women from all corners of our great nation, helped Martin realize the importance of having individual goals for each person blended with consistent standards and expectations across the teams.
Martin transitioned out of active duty and spent the next 17 years at Pfizer Inc in a series of roles with increasing responsibilities across sales, marketing, and managed care. Martin is now proudly working with BMS since 2014 as Executive Director, National Accounts in the US Commercial Value, Access, and Payment (VAP) organization. He thoroughly enjoys the BMS culture where the primary focus is genuinely centered on the patients who we ultimately serve balanced with creating growth and success for BMS employees.
Martin spends a great deal of his energy with his family but is also involved in a variety of local veteran community events across Bucks County, PA. He has served on the board of Special Olympics-Texas and looks to continue to help others achieve their dreams both at work and home.
What is Home of the Brave? The Home of the Brave campaign engages company and partner employees in thanking those we owe for our freedom. We work with VA Voluntary Service and Homeless Program at local VA facilities nationwide to provide a volunteer base for activities, patient visits, and donations of Honor Packs, blankets and boots to homeless veterans and those in need in celebration of Veterans Day.
